The Opportunity

Nicholas Associates are delighted to be recruiting for an exciting opportunity for a Welding & Fabrication Team Leader to join a successful and growing manufacturing business based in Hoyland, Barnsley.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Welder/Fabricator, Welding Supervisor or Team Leader looking to take the next step in their career, combining hands-on technical knowledge with team leadership responsibilities.

The successful candidate will take ownership of a designated welding and fabrication production area, leading a multi-skilled team and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

The Role

As Welding & Fabrication Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading, organising and supporting a multi-skilled welding and fabrication team.
  • Allocating work and balancing workloads to meet daily production requirements.
  • Driving production targets and ensuring output KPIs are achieved.
  • Providing guidance and technical support to team members.
  • Conducting daily team briefings and maintaining clear communication across the department.
  • Supporting hands-on welding and fabrication activities when required.
  • Ensuring components and fabrications are produced accurately and to specification.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Monitoring quality throughout the production process and addressing defects.
  • Ensuring welding and fabrication work meets required commercial quality standards.
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety across the workshop.
  • Supporting risk assessments, COSHH and manual handling procedures

Experience required

  • Previous experience within a welding and fabrication environment.
  • Strong practical welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience working with MIG and/or TIG welding; MMA experience would be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Previous experienceleading, supervising or mentoring a team.
  • Ability to organise workloads and allocate tasks effectively.
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures within a workshop or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to identify and resolve production or quality issues.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S or continuous improvement would be advantageous.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable taking a hands-on approach when required.
  • Willingness to support and develop other members of the team.
  • Reliable, proactive and able to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
