We are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Project Engineer to join a busy marine and defence engineering environment supporting projects across Royal Navy vessels. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in marine, mechanical, or electrical engineering who enjoys managing technical project delivery within a fast-paced engineering setting.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, coordination, and implementation of engineering upgrades and modifications, working closely with internal departments, OEMs, contractors, and MOD stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and prioritise technical scopes of work in collaboration with suppliers, OEMs, contractors, and customers.
  • Support and oversee engineering upgrades and vessel modifications.
  • Lead technical elements during project planning, ensuring specifications and deliverables are achievable and clearly defined.
  • Provide engineering support and technical oversight during contractor and OEM activities both on-site and remotely.
  • Liaise with MOD representatives to ensure compliance with defence engineering standards and regulations.
  • Manage projects from initial request through execution and final close out.
  • Support the preparation of detailed work packs and engineering documentation.
  • Monitor project progress, resolve technical issues, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and contribute to project reporting.
  • Support cost estimation, resource planning, change control, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Attend client meetings as the lead engineering representative.
  • Proactively support project delivery to minimise operational disruption and maintain vessel capability.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical, Marine, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a Project Engineering role, ideally within marine, defence, shipbuilding, or heavy engineering sectors.
  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities with practical engineering knowledge.
  • Experience managing multiple technical workstreams and liaising with a range of stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of engineering project lifecycles, maintenance planning, and OEM coordination.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, Teams, and SharePoint.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting Royal Navy, MOD, or defence-related projects.
  • Knowledge of Classification Society, Flag State, and defence engineering regulations.
  • Project Management qualifications such as PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent.
