You will act as an independent, unbiased third party carrying out pre-shipment cargo inspections across a wide range of goods, including scrap metals, minerals, and agricultural products. You will provide accurate, up-to-date reporting from the field on quality, weight, and other key aspects of the cargo and its handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Survey all types of commodities, including pre-loading, discharge, and post-discharge inspections.
  • Identify, assess, and help mitigate losses to commodities.
  • Monitor cargo condition during loading and discharging operations and accurately tally cargo.
  • Conduct draft surveys.
  • Calculate cargo volumes, weights, and hold capacities using standard methods.
  • Analyse survey data and report findings to the main office.
  • Maintain regular communication and provide updates to ensure work is completed on time and meets client requirements.
  • Conduct warehouse audits when required.
  • Travel to Scotland on a fortnightly basis to carry out bag sampling as required.
  • Gather background information, identify potential issues, and make appropriate recommendations.

Skills / Qualifications

  • You will be comfortable taking direction and learning on the job.
  • Experience in cargo inspections or marine draft surveying would be beneficial, but full training will be provided.
  • Able to work independently with a strong focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Demonstrates integrity, sound judgement, and impartiality.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
  • Strong reporting, Microsoft Office, analytical, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

You will be working primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role requires standing for extended periods, as well as bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, and maintaining a good level of physical fitness.
