Our well-established client is seeking an experienced Laying Farm Manager to oversee the daily operations of multiple poultry laying farms. This role is crucial in ensuring high standards of flock care, optimising egg production, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for animal welfare, and experience managing farm operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Farm Operations Management:
- Oversee daily operations, including feed, water, lighting, and flock health management.
- Ensure accurate completion of daily records by egg collectors, including pallet labels.
- Manage shavings and enrichment to maintain bird welfare.
- Develop and implement procedures to optimise egg production and animal welfare.
- Monitor production data, making necessary adjustments to improve efficiency.
- Maintain high standards by removing waste, checking ranges, and ensuring farm cleanliness.
2. Staff Management:
- Train and supervise farm staff, ensuring they follow best practices in hygiene, bird welfare, and safety.
- Schedule and assign tasks, fostering a productive work environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training opportunities.
3. Health and Bio-security:
- Implement and monitor bio-security measures, including wheel washes and foot dips.
- Conduct regular health assessments and report any concerns, such as increased mortality or drops in egg production.
- Coordinate veterinary care, including blood testing, swabbing, and weighing pullets.
- Maintain accurate health records and ensure effective pest control measures.
4. Feed and Nutrition Management:
- Manage feed inventory to ensure hens receive a balanced diet.
- Work with nutritionists to adjust feeding programs for optimal production.
5. Legal Compliance & Inspections:
- Ensure compliance with all regulations related to animal welfare, food safety, and bio security.
- Maintain records for inspections and audits, including DEFRA, BEIC Lion Code, Freedom Food, and Organic Food Federation.
- Oversee adherence to environmental permits and regulatory standards.
6. Facility Maintenance:
- Oversee maintenance and repair of farm facilities and equipment.
- Work with the agricultural team to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in poultry farm management or a similar agricultural role.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of bio security measures and industry regulations.
