Location: Southampton

Hours: Monday to Friday days only.

Salary: According to experience but likely to be in the £40,000 - £55,000 bracket.

Do you have experience of the service, repair and maintenance of heavy plant? Have you worked with products manufactured by the likes of JCB, Caterpillar, Finning, Komatsu, Volvo and similar? Have you worked on equipment such as excavators, telehandlers, tractors, bulldozers, generators and similar mobile and static heavy plant? Experience of HGVs may also be acceptable.

This vacancy will see you undertaking reactive breakdown work as well as scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance. It is a hands-on position which will require a broad range of skills. Whilst a mechanical engineering background and experience of hydraulics is essential, you will need a broad range of skills. Experience of electrical systems, engines, gearboxes etc. is also important. You will also have welding and fabrication skills. The company operates a CMMS, and you will need to work with that on a daily basis. Due to the nature of the equipment, you must be prepared to work outdoors.

About you:

  • Proven experience of the service, repair and maintenance of mobile and static plant.
  • Full strip down and rebuild knowledge will be required.
  • Hands-on skills - basic skills in welding, fabrication, turning, milling etc.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of hydraulic systems to component level.
  • Some exposure to plant electrical systems.
  • Able to read engineering drawings.
  • Health and safety conscious.
  • Live in a commutable distance of Southampton or be prepared to relocate.
  • A formal qualification to ONC / BTEC / NVQ 3 or higher in a relevant subject is preferred although experience is more important than paper qualifications. Apprentice trained is perfect.
