Nicholas Associates is partnered with a groundworks sub-contractor based in Chelmsford, providing a groundworks and civil engineering service to the construction industry. They are looking for a Health and Safety Advisor who will be required to work on sites across Chelmsford and the surrounding area.

To succeed in this role, you will be expected to carry out the following roles and responsibilities with a comfortable level of autonomy:

  • Report to the regional HSE Manager and provide support and assistance to the HSE team, Construction Directors, Contracts Managers, and the site teams on HSE issues.
  • Have/build an accurate understanding of the Organisation's HSE policies and management system.
  • Promote and ensure implementation of the organisation's occupational H&S and environmental policies and procedures across all developments.
  • Attend pre-commencement meetings as requested to proactively contribute to the initial decisions made by the construction team on H&S matters.
  • Lead on accident/incident investigation.
  • Produce detailed and factual investigation reports with establishment of immediate/contributory/root cause analysis.
  • Responsible for all on-site health, safety & environmental issues.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are implemented, adhered to, and developed in line with HSE guidelines as well as mentoring.

Experience Required:

  • HSE qualifications such as NEBOSH & IOSH.
  • Previous experience with a groundworks or civil engineering contractor.
  • Experience in residential groundworks.
  • Robust knowledge of construction and sub-contracting.
  • Previous experience within the groundworks/construction/house building sector.
  • Confident in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
