Hours: 37.5 hours per week (3-shift rotation: days, backs, nights)

Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent

Pay Rates:

  • Basic: £13.54 per hour
  • 06:00 - 14:00: £15.71 per hour
  • 13:45 - 20:45: £16.93 per hour
  • 20:45 - 06:00: £17.60 per hour

Overtime Rates:

  • Saturday: £20.31 per hour
  • Sunday: £27.08 per hour

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist with experience in horizontal boring to join a busy production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating horizontal boring machines to produce high-precision components, ensuring all work meets strict quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machining Operations: Set up and operate horizontal boring machines to meet production requirements. Perform machining processes including boring, drilling, and milling on large or complex components. Ensure all work is completed to tight tolerances and technical specifications.
  • Finishing: Smooth and finish welded components to meet structural and visual standards.
  • Maintenance: Carry out routine machine maintenance and basic fault identification. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect components using precision measuring equipment. Ensure all finished parts meet required quality standards and engineering drawings.
  • Health & Safety: Adhere to all health and safety procedures and company policies. Use PPE correctly and maintain a safe working environment at all times.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience in a machining role. Experience operating horizontal boring machines is desirable.
  • Skills & Competencies: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Competent in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, gauges). Overhead crane experience (certification desirable). Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Good understanding of health & safety in an engineering environment.
