Nicholas Associates has an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established client in the York area.
You will be responsible for ensuring mechanical designs fully meet customer requirements (with any exceptions documented), while providing accurate manufacturing information for efficient and effective production.
- Produce mechanical designs, 3D models, specifications and detailed drawings for components, sub-assemblies, and top-level assemblies using CAD (e.g., Solidworks).
- Provide evidence of design verification and product validation via project Statements of Compliance.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, risk assessments and mitigation activities through project FMEA statements.
- Support prototype build, testing and validation activities.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures for New Product Development, Change Control, and Configuration Management, demonstrating adherence during audits by QA, customers, or accreditation bodies.
- Liaise with subcontractors for key processes on NPD projects to ensure design for manufacture and assembly best practice.
- Work in compliance with relevant quality, safety and regulatory requirements.
A minimum of 2-3 years Mechanical Design experience.
Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D design software.
Manufacturing experience, a good understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and mechanical principles.
Knowledge of design principles for manufacture and process limitations.
Understanding of environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, shock, vibration, galvanic action) and their impact on design.
Project management exposure.
Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
