The closing date is 20 February 2026. Reporting to the Health Technology Assessment Adviser, the Senior Health Technology Assessment Analyst will be responsible for the development, publication and quality assurance of guidance. You will provide technical oversight and guidance to the assessment of the clinical and cost effectiveness of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostic technologies, contribute to the training and development of new and existing members of staff, and the development of high-quality methods and technical practice across the guidance programme.

Please note this advert is for application to band 8a. Successful candidates in a band 8a role are expected to work with greater autonomy and have more experience and familiarity of HTA and health technology evaluation than those in a band 7 role. Role can be based in either our Manchester or London office with hybrid working. Interviews are anticipated to be on 10th and 11th March.

Main duties of the job:

  • The Senior HTA Analyst acts as the technical lead on technology appraisals. In this role, they are responsible for the technical aspects of the evaluation, including scoping the topic, liaising with the external assessment group, preparing drafts of guidance and advising the committee.
  • They work with other members of the technical team to identify and explore issues in the evidence, come to preliminary scientific judgments, and advise the appraisal committee in its discussion of the evidence.
  • In addition, the Senior HTA Analyst will be involved in the drafting and revising of scopes for an appraisal, will support the HTA Adviser and Associate Director in preparing for appeal hearings, and is expected to contribute to one or more knowledge hubs in the Medicines Evaluation programme on topics such as methods, rare diseases, medicines pricing and costings, disruptive technologies, or other topics.

Job responsibilities:

Person Specification:

Qualifications: Doctorate or Master’s degree (or equivalent) or equivalent relevant HTA experience. The qualifications and/or experience should be in subject or subjects related to HTA/evidence-based medicine (health economics, medical statistics, clinical trials, public health and health policy, epidemiology, systematic reviewing).

Experience: Excellent writing skills, including the appropriate use of technical language; this is required because it is essential for the post holder to prepare technical overviews of evidence which are considered by the Committee and put out for public consultation. Experience of health economic evaluation and modelling. Experience of supervising, training and providing support to other members of staff.

Knowledge: Knowledge across HTA including principles of evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisal and the interpretation and synthesis of health care and public health research evidence. Working knowledge of all the following areas and specialist expertise in at least two of the following: Health economics, medical statistics, clinical trials, public health and health policy, epidemiology, systematic reviewing, medical writing/editing.

Skills: Ability to prioritise own workload and produce high-quality work to meet frequent, non-negotiable deadlines.

Contract: Permanent

Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible working, Compressed hours

Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 a year, plus HCAS if applicable.
