Who are we looking for?
We are looking for 3 new members to join the NICE Indicator Advisory Committee, which advises NICE on the prioritisation, development and potential implementation of healthcare quality indicators across the health system. We are particularly looking for the following:
- Community Pharmacist
- Primary care Practice Manager
- GP Partner
We're looking for people with a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for how quality indicators can drive better care and improved outcomes. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a high‑performing, multidisciplinary NICE committee, playing a key role in developing nationally and internationally influential indicators that support meaningful improvement across the health system.
Please note: The position of committee member is unpaid. NICE will pay reasonable out‑of‑pocket expenses, including train fares and hotel costs, when necessary, for attending in‑person committee meetings. NICE will reimburse locum backfill for committee members working in NHS general practice where a locum is needed to allow their attendance on NICE business.
Main duties of the job
The Indicator Advisory Committee (IAC) operates as a standing Advisory Committee of the Board of NICE. The committee advises NICE on:
- Prioritising topics for the development of potential healthcare quality indicators
- Reviewing results of testing or piloting, consultation and equality impact assessment
- Recommending indicators for publication on the NICE indicator menu
- Reviewing existing indicators
- Providing advice on indicator development
The committee supports the development of indicators in accordance with NICE's published Indicator Process guide. Committee members are appointed to a committee because of their relevant experience or their specific technical skills. They are not appointed to act as representatives of a particular organisation. Committee members are co‑authors of the indicators. They should respect the rights of NICE to:
- Publish the final indicators and associated products (for example, products to support implementation)
- Receive notification of any proposed publications related to committee member work on the indicators.

About us
Remuneration: Currently the position of committee member is unpaid. However, NICE will pay reasonable out‑of‑pocket expenses, including train fares and hotel costs, when necessary, for attending committee meetings as set out in NICE's non‑staff reimbursement policy. NICE recognises that in some circumstances individuals will need to arrange for carers or support workers to accompany them to a meeting, or to take over unpaid caring responsibilities while they are at a meeting – this includes childcare or care of a family member with a disability or other additional needs. The circumstances in which NICE can provide reimbursement for such costs are outlined in the non‑staff reimbursement policy.
Time commitment: Committee members are expected to attend 3 single day committee meetings and 1 two‑day committee meeting a year, in total 5 days a year. Our committee meetings are predominantly virtual, with one meeting a year held face‑to‑face.
Job responsibilities
- Set aside enough time to attend committee meetings and use personal and professional knowledge to inform the development of the indicators.
- Raise any concerns about process or details in the draft indicators with the committee, and try to resolve these issues within the committee, with support from the NICE Indicators team.
- Contribute positively to the work of the committee and to developing the indicators.
- Take full account of the evidence in developing indicators.
- Consider the analysis and interpretation of evidence prepared by the evidence review team.
- Act in a professional manner, show good manners and be courteous to colleagues and staff at all times.
- Be impartial and honest in conducting duties for NICE, use public funds entrusted to them to the best advantage of NICE, and avoid deliberately damaging the confidence of the public or stakeholders in NICE.
- Read and adhere to NICE's Principles.

Person Specification
- Ability to contribute to the work of the committee
- Experience in health or social care (as appropriate), either as a practicing health or social care professional, or working in or in association with the wider aspects of health or social care or the healthcare industries.
- Active registration with the appropriate professional body.
- A licence to practise.
- An understanding of the social, political, economic and professional influences on NICE.
- Ability to understand and interpret multiple complex data sets.
- Ability to gather data, analyse, critique and synthesise complex information, as evidenced by relevant experience and/or academic qualifications.
