Are you a proactive and enthusiastic individual with experience in health economics, health outcomes research, health technology assessment or guideline development? Do you want to play a key role in managing a portfolio of science policy and methods research projects that have a major impact on NICE's guidance? We have a vacancy for a Senior Scientific Adviser in NICE's Science Policy team. Our aim is to build on NICE's reputation as a methodological innovator, and to improve our methods to take account of novel technologies and changes in the wider health and care system.

The Senior Scientific Adviser plays an integral role in managing the team and should be broadly familiar with NICE's guidance programmes and science policy and research activities. The role will consist of:

  • Contributing to the development of responses to science policy issues.
  • Working with teams across NICE to prioritise and co-ordinate science policy and research activities, including supporting updates of our guidance development manuals.
  • Contributing to NICE Listens, which uses deliberative public engagement on moral, ethical or social value issues to inform NICE's policies and methods.
  • Managing NICE's delivery of multi-stakeholder collaborative projects under the supervision of the Associate Director.
  • Providing senior technical expertise and input relating to the delivery of science policy and methods research projects.
  • Developing proposals for funding applications in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
  • Developing relationships with key UK, European and international funders, research councils, policy organisations, academia and industry.

The Science Policy team undertakes research and works with and influences external policy partners on scientific and research issues related to the work of NICE. The team develops NICE's methods for health technology assessment and guideline development, and encourages partners to commission research relevant to our research priority areas.

We can offer you a great place to work with good benefits, flexible working, and a supportive, friendly and inclusive environment. The Science Policy team adopts a flexible approach, meaning that the post holder will work on multiple projects and activities at any one time (including projects and activities led by other teams) and that specific tasks assigned to the post holder may change in response to business needs.

To be considered for this role, you should be able to particularly demonstrate the person specification criteria in the job advert in your application. However, applicants should be able to demonstrate all essential criteria through the entirety of the recruitment process to be considered for the job.
