Do you want to do meaningful work that makes a genuine difference to society? Our main purpose here at The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is to improve health and wellbeing by putting science and evidence at the heart of health and care decision making. As an organisation we all collaborate to achieve this same goal through empowering our workforce to do great things!

The communications executive role supports our public enquiry and media function in the external communications team of the NICE communications directorate. The role offers opportunities to gain experience across multiple communications areas, while providing vital administrative and tactical support as needed.

Responsibilities

The communications executive is responsible for managing their own caseload of enquiries, received by email into the NICE enquiries’ mailbox. The post-holder will research the answers to questions received about our guidance, and work with other teams and external stakeholders to coordinate responses to enquiries, Freedom of Information requests, ministerial correspondence, and parliamentary questions. They will also draft responses to letters from Members of Parliament and HM Coroner’s service, all within agreed timescales. The post-holder will also support the media team who work alongside the enquiry handling team in the external communications group. The media relations team’s role is to raise awareness and understanding of NICE's work and manage and limit any negative media coverage about controversial guidance or issues. The team responds to questions from the media, promotes new guidance about to be published and guidance that is already available, arranges interviews for our spokespeople and briefs them accordingly and issues comments on relevant stories. The external communications team is responsible for all external enquiries received by NICE, including enquiries from the public, healthcare professionals, patient groups, charities, professional bodies, ministerial correspondence and questions from the media. You will be joining an extensive team of communication specialists in a fast-paced environment.
