The Networks Distribution Technician is the first resource deployed to water network problems. The purpose is to determine what needs to be done in order to maintain standards of service to customers, ensure safe networks operation and decide what follow on work may be required. The Distribution Networks Technician will ensure that NIW’s reputation is maintained and that risks are managed.

Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate in their application and where necessary at interview:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Minimum of two years’ practical experience working within a water network environment. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on involvement in investigating and resolving network issues, maintaining water supply, and performing operational tasks such as rezoning, PRV (pressure reducing valve) checks within a utility or contractor setting.
  • Competent in the use of water distribution tools and equipment, including pressure reducing valve (PRV) testing devices and network rezoning tools. Applicants must provide examples of equipment they have used and the context in which they applied it to investigate and resolve water distribution issues, maintain supply continuity, and ensure water quality.
  • Experience in conducting routine inspections and analysing data to support the maintenance and performance of water networks. Demonstrate how you have identified faults, interpreted network performance data, and contributed to asset management decisions.
  • Confident user of IT systems and software relevant to leakage detection and reporting, such as GIS platforms, telemetry systems, MS Excel, and Outlook. Candidates should be able to demonstrate how they’ve used the digital tools above to record findings, analyse trends, and communicate results.
  • Holds a full and valid UK driving licence.
  • Potential employees must have a permanent residence within 25 miles travelling distance by public road to Purdysburn Service Reservoir - Alderwood Hill, Belfast, Down, BT8 6YY as measured by RAC Route Planner from full postcode to full postcode via the ‘shortest route’ selection on the website. This is to enable NI Water to meet its key customer service requirements and deliver effective services to customers, particularly in respect of the need to respond promptly to out of hours emergencies.

Salary: HCO - Base salary: £31,551.32 per annum. This payment is made up of a consolidated value of £26,144.61 and a non-consolidated value of £5,406.71 per annum. Overtime rates are based on the consolidated value only.
