Technical Assistant Newry Monday Friday 8am-5pm (40 hours per week with flexibility) Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 DOE Reporting to the Technical Manager and working as part of a strong and supportive Technical team, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and developing the sites food safety, quality and technical standards. This is a varied role offering the opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of technical activities, while also providing support to the Technical Manager and wider production team. Key Responsibilities Verify daily quality and food safety monitoring records, ensuring compliance with company procedures. Carry out routine quality checks across raw materials, finished products and production processes, including labelling, allergens and traceability. Support the training, mentoring and development of staff in line with company policies and procedures. Coordinate samples for external analysis, including microbiological, chemical, speciation, allergen and environmental testing, and review results accordingly. Conduct internal audits covering hygiene, fabrication, glass and perspex. Manage customer complaints and internal non-conformances, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are identified and implemented. Review, maintain and update internal technical and quality documentation. Undertake regular traceability challenges and ensure systems remain robust and effective. Monitor and trend key technical and quality KPIs, identifying areas for improvement. Verify cleaning and maintenance records to ensure compliance with required standards. Review and maintain the Supplier Approval Programme covering raw materials, packaging, transport and service providers. Ensure taste panels, shelf-life assessments and organoleptic testing are completed and accurately recorded. Support New Product Development (NPD), from initial trials through to product launch. Review and maintain product specifications, work specifications and labelling information. Assist with the preparation and coordination of BRCGS, customer and other external audits. Deputise for the Technical Manager when required. Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the management team. What We're Looking For A 3rd level qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Safety or a related discipline. 35 years experience within a food manufacturing environment, ideally within the meat or protein sector. A proactive, flexible and adaptable approach, with a genuine willingness to learn and develop. Strong organisational and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. The ability to remain calm and effective when working under pressure. Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach. The confidence and capability to deputise for the Technical Manager when required.
