Maintenance Team Leader β Dungannon - Food Manufacturing
We are working with an established food manufacturing business in Dungannon to recruit an experienced Maintenance Team Leader to join their engineering function.
This is a hands-on leadership role within a busy production environment, ideal for an experienced Maintenance Engineer who is ready to take the next step, or an existing Team Leader looking for a new opportunity.
The role will have an approximate 70% electrical / 30% mechanical bias, with responsibility for leading the maintenance team while remaining hands-on with fault-finding, repairs and preventative maintenance.
The Role:
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of the maintenance team, ensuring equipment is maintained safely and effectively and that production downtime is kept to a minimum.
You will act as a key link between the Engineering and Production teams, providing technical support and ensuring maintenance activities are prioritised and completed efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the maintenance team on a day-to-day basis.
- Allocate maintenance tasks and respond to breakdowns according to production priorities.
- Provide hands-on electrical and mechanical maintenance support.
- Carry out electrical fault-finding, with the role having a strong 70% electrical focus.
- Diagnose faults involving motors, sensors, contactors, relays, control circuits and electrical panels.
- Carry out basic PLC fault-finding and diagnostics.
- Support the maintenance of automated production and packaging machinery.
- Undertake mechanical maintenance, including bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pumps and other components.
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance is completed effectively and on schedule.
- Act as the first point of escalation for complex breakdowns and technical issues.
- Identify recurring equipment faults and support root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Liaise closely with Production Team Leaders and Managers to minimise downtime.
- Monitor maintenance standards and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure relevant documentation is completed.
- Support the Maintenance Manager with engineering projects, machinery upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coach and develop less experienced members of the maintenance team.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with company health & safety procedures.
The Person:
We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer or Maintenance Team Leader with a strong electrical background and the ability to lead a small engineering team.
You will ideally have:
- A recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Previous maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
- Good mechanical maintenance knowledge.
- Experience working with motors, sensors, control panels, contactors and electrical systems.
- Experience with PLC fault-finding and automated machinery.
- The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring or leading other engineers.
- A calm and structured approach to breakdown situations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with Production.
- A proactive approach to preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
- A strong understanding of health & safety within an industrial environment.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in food manufacturing.
- Experience with high-speed production or packaging machinery.
- 18th Edition Electrical Regulations.
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Experience using a CMMS or planned maintenance system.
- Experience carrying out root-cause analysis and reliability improvements.
