Energy & Infrastructure Lead

As Energy & Infrastructure Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and influencing the policy environment needed to support economic growth and competitiveness.

You will lead NI Chamber's work across energy, physical infrastructure, planning, connectivity, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Working closely with business leaders, politicians, government departments, regulators and industry stakeholders, you will develop evidence-based policy positions, lead high-profile engagement programmes and ensure the voice of business is heard in key policy debates.

• Key Responsbilities
• Lead NI Chamber's policy development and advocacy across energy, infrastructure and connectivity issues.
• Develop and deliver policy positions, consultation responses, reports and thought leadership publications.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including government departments, regulators, energy providers, utility companies, infrastructure operators, local authorities and industry representative bodies.
• Lead engagement with NI Chamber members to identify challenges, opportunities and priorities relating to energy and infrastructure investment.
• Convene and facilitate member forums, working groups and expert panels.
• Represent NI Chamber at meetings, conferences, stakeholder events and media engagements.
• Monitor developments in energy policy, infrastructure planning, regulation and investment at local, UK and across the island of Ireland.
• Develop practical policy recommendations that support economic growth, investment and business competitiveness.
• Support the development of major strategic projects, including research partnerships and sponsored policy programmes.
• Brief NI Chamber leadership, members and external stakeholders on emerging policy developments.
• Work closely with colleagues across policy, communications, member services and business development functions to maximise impact.
• Contribute to public affairs activity with elected representatives and government officials.
• Assist in the delivery of NI Chamber's overall strategic objectives.
• Undertake any other duties as directed by the Director of Public Affairs & International Relations or Chief Executive related to this role.

Experience

• Significant experience working in one or more of the following areas: energy, utilities, infrastructure, public policy, government affairs, regulatory affairs or public sector strategy.
• Demonstrable experience of influencing policy, regulation or strategic decision-making.
• Strong understanding of the Northern Ireland policy and economic landscape.
• Experience of producing high-quality reports, consultation responses, policy papers or strategic recommendations.
• Experience of engaging effectively with senior stakeholders across business, government and the public sector.
• Evidence of developing productive networks and partnerships.
• Experience of managing multiple complex projects and competing priorities.
• Knowledge of one or more of the following: energy markets and regulation, electricity networks and grid infrastructure, water and wastewater infrastructure, planning and infrastructure delivery, climate change and sustainability policy, or UK and EU energy policy.
• Experience of working in a membership organisation, representative body, consultancy, regulator, utility company or government department.
• Media engagement and public speaking experience.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
• Degree or postgraduate qualification in economics, engineering, energy, public policy, politics, business, law or environmental studies.
• Flexibility
• Must be able to undertake travel occasionally
• Must be able to work evenings on occasions to support events, stakeholder meetings and policy engagement activities.

• Pension scheme 5% rising to 8% after 3 years continuous service.

• 23 days' annual leave in addition to statutory holidays.
• Hours of Work
• Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm and Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm.
• A degree of flexibility is required during periods of peak activity.
