Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 420,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care to a wider area covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire. AAC Interview Date: 9th July 2025 – AM Main duties of the job The candidate will be expected to work across both sites depending on the needs of the service. The job plan will include 10 Programmed Activities with a 1 in 12 on call commitment, which will work out as 1:12 weekends and 1:3 fixed weekday, delivered at St Helier Hospital. The job plan will include 3.5 PAs in Chronic pain and 0.625 PA in acute pain. The job plan includes 1.5 SPA for core mandatory training/governance in pain and anaesthetic, with an additional 0.5 SPA for mentoring and guidance under a senior supervisor for 12 months. The successful candidate must be dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, always placing the patient first. Job responsibilities The Epsom & St Helier Anaesthetic department is aligned with the St Georges Hospital teaching programme for medical students and the SW Thames School of Anaesthesia training programme. We have ACSA accreditation. There is a well-established simulation teaching programme which may give opportunities for suitably qualified applicants. We score highly each year in the national hip fracture database report and are one of the busiest 5 units in London. Person Specification Qualifications Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT/CE SR or equivalent Completion of 12 months Completion of 12 months of Pain SIA or equivalent EPALS / APLS training FFPMRCA – Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Royal College of Anaesthetists Additional paeds/obs experience beyond Stage 3 experience Special interest in regional anaesthesia Clinical Experience Broad range of experience of anaesthesia for elective, emergency surgery for patients of all ages Advanced airway management skills Management and Administrative Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees Ability to teach clinical skills Experience of supervising junior doctors nstructor status in ALS/ APLS / EPLS or other similar courses Research Experience Ability to contribute to change management Ability to critically review research Demonstrate involvement in Audit Personal Attributes Ability to be flexible to meet the demands of the departmen Ability to communicate with patients and relatives Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities to local, regional or national levels Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
