Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group is looking for a talented Associate HR Business Partner to cover for a 12 month fixed term period (maternity leave in the team) in our Clinical Group Embedded HR Team who will act as the key points of contact for our GMS, Surgery, TAP and TRU directorates, working autonomously with Directorate leaders to lead on organisational change, utilising workforce intelligence data to influence sustained improvement in directorate KPIs and creating interventions with impact to support directorate people challenges.

Main duties of the job
The Associate HR Business Partner will provide an operational role within four busy directorates: 1. Gastrointestinal Medicine and Surgery, 2. Surgery (Orthopaedics and Plastics), 3. Theatres, Anaesthesia and Perioperative, 4. Transplant, Renal and Urology and as a senior HR professional, is expected to be largely self-managing. It will be vital for the Associate HR Business Partner to understand and contribute to the key people priorities in the Clinical Group and have experience of supporting organisational change within NHS services.
This role will report to the Associate Director of People.
Job responsibilities
- Lead with confidence on supporting leaders with any organisational change required within our services.
- Develop robust relationships with directorate leaders and act as a critical friend to influence, challenge and support people priorities and monitor success.
- Work with directorate leaders and their teams in identifying people challenges and developing appropriate business-focused HR interventions, always with the aim of developing the leadership capability within the directorates.
- Support and challenge managers in the identification of training and development needs in respect of the people management agenda, linking in with OD to support the development needs.
- Support and coach in the application of HR policies and practices, providing advice and guidance on complex HR issues in order to minimise risk and financial exposure.
- Seek out and use workforce intelligence data, both internal and external, to identify the people management requirements within the service area, establishing credibility as an expert in HR.
- Coordinate a team comprising representatives from the different functional areas of HR, and where appropriate beyond HR, to analyse and interpret relevant workforce information and productivity measures.
- Recommend, develop and support the implementation of appropriate HR interventions to address the people challenges facing the service area.
- Work with the wider HR teams to ensure the services provided meet the needs of the service area they support, utilising the expertise of the specialist teams in HR to ensure workforce challenges are addressed efficiently and effectively.

Experience
- Significant generalist HR experience, working with managers to deliver high quality HR services.
- Significant experience in HR in the NHS or a large complex organisation with union recognition.
- Significant experience of leading, facilitating and managing change.
- Experience of contributing and developing workforce strategy.
Skills/Knowledge
- An expert level of knowledge in strategic workforce issues, including legislation, NHS policy, and best practice.
- Up to date knowledge of key current issues in human resources and in local, regional and national networks and issues outside the organisation and how these impact on the Trust.
- Able to foster powerful and productive collaborative working relationships internally and externally.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills for a variety of formal and informal purposes; able to articulate a vision with clarity.
