Job Description:

Victoria Hospital

2 posts: Permanent and Maternity Leave Cover*

An exciting opportunity has arisen for senior pharmacists to join our Medical Education Team in Fife.

You will be responsible for the development, management, delivery, and evaluation of training programmes in prescribing and therapeutics for medical undergraduates at St Andrews University and Foundation Training Year doctors based in NHS Fife. You will act as a source of expertise advising students, patients, carers, medical staff, nurses, and AHPs about medicines and prescribing.

A postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience and independent prescribing qualification is essential. You will have significant post-registration experience of pharmacy practice, sound clinical knowledge, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and comprehensive IT skills. Experience in teaching, supervision, assessment, and evaluation of education and training for staff and/or students is essential.

You will work collaboratively with the other medical education pharmacists, clinical pharmacists, senior clinical educators, and members of the wider clinical and medical education teams. Your work will be directed by Medical Education, and you will be line managed by the Lead Pharmacist for Education, Research, and Development.

You will continue to have a clinical commitment to ensure you keep up to date with your own clinical practice.

Senior Pharmacist, 37 hours, Permanent Post

The MBChB Scottish Community Orientated Medicine (ScotCOM) programme is a new, five-year MBChB degree in Medicine developed in conjunction with the University of St Andrews. The programme is focused on community-based clinical teaching, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of primary care services, whilst ensuring exposure and understanding of hospital-based care. The development of ScotCOM with the University of St Andrews, our co-terminus university, is also allowing NHS Fife to progress Teaching Health Board status.

This role will initially be to develop the community components of the ScotCOM program. Once the program commences, you will support delivery of the learning that complements the delivery of placements within the hub and spoke model. There will be two community hubs in the East and West of Fife. This post will work alongside a team of clinical educators (SCEs) who will deliver a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and act as positive role models for the student cohort.

As well as teaching, you will support clinical placements and be a supervisor/mentor for medical students and foundation doctors.

Senior Pharmacist, 22.2 hours over 3 days, 1-year Maternity Leave Cover Post

You will provide training, support, and development for medical students studying at the University of St. Andrews on the 3-year BSc programme. These teaching sessions will mainly be on a Tuesday and Thursday, delivered at Queen Margaret Hospital, Victoria Hospital, or Cameron Hospital.

You will work closely with the Medical Education Department and the University of St. Andrews, our partner university.

This is a part-time post, but there may be an opportunity to combine it with a post in the clinical pharmacy service if additional hours are preferred. This opportunity could also be undertaken as a secondment.

Please note the salary for the part-time post is pro-rata to part-time hours.

Please indicate clearly within your supporting information which post you are applying for.

Interviews are scheduled for the 7th August

*Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity – Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here. If you do not have approval for a secondment from your current line manager, you will not be able to progress your application for a fixed-term post. External applicants, with continuous NHS Service, must also have in place a secondment agreement from their existing board to apply for this post.
