NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

A 4-PA post as a Consultant in Ophthalmology, preferably with a subspecialty interest in Neuro-ophthalmology, is available from 1st September 2025. The provisional job plan includes sessions at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The contract comprises 4 Programmed Activities, including administrative and SPA sessions. The job plan and location may vary based on service needs.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register. UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the interview date. CESR route doctors are eligible only after CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Additional non-DCC (up to 2 PA’s, including 1 core SPA and 1 additional non-DCC) can be negotiated based on professional support needs. All new Consultants are initially offered a minimum of 1 Core SPA, which includes CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, and job planning, with review and possible increase within 6 months.
