Overview

Transport Driver – Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Van Depot is situated at Martland Point, Fourmarts Road, Wigan, WN5 0LU

Work pattern: Monday to Friday with various 7.5-hour and 9.5-hour shifts from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Band 2 – £12.51 per hour (enhanced rates at weekends).

This is a temporary position until the end of the year with potential extension, but extension cannot be guaranteed.

Key responsibilities

  • Safely transport goods, linen, pharmacy supplies, medical specimens, and Trust staff between hospital sites.
  • Ensure staff are safely moved between locations to support patient care and daily operations.
  • Maintain vehicles in a clean, tidy, and roadworthy condition.
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks, minor maintenance, and report any faults promptly.
  • Promote excellent customer service with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Assist with mail processing and other transport-related duties when required.

Requirements of the role

  • Valid D1 driving licence is essential (for operating minibuses and relevant vehicle classes).
  • At least 2 years\' recent experience as a driver, preferably within a healthcare or similar environment.
  • Confident in manual handling and the use of transport equipment such as sack trucks.
  • Willing to commute to the Van Depot at the start of each shift (address: Martland Point, Fourmarts Road, Wigan, WN5 0LU).
  • Calm, professional, and customer-focused with excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle checks and fuel-efficient driving is desirable but not essential.
