ยท Coordinate patients through their treatment pathway ensuring compliance to 18 weeks RTT, cancer pathways and local waiting time targets.
ยท Transcribe from audio, copy type, edit or shorthand (where appropriate), all clinical letters and other correspondence as required by the consultant and team, ensuring layout, spelling, grammar and punctuation is correct and consistent.
ยท Act as a first point of contact on behalf of the Consultants and the Trust and deal effectively and courteously with all enquiries from GP’s, patients, carers and other departments within the Trust.
ยท Assess all enquiries, deal with effectively and respond appropriately in a timely manner.
ยท Act as a key point of contact for health service employees at all levels, both within the Trust and outside agencies.
ยท Attend meetings as requested, taking minutes as appropriate.
ยท Organise own work schedule, adapt the schedule as required to meet commitments to others within the agreed timescales, where this is not possible give notification promptly with reasons to medical secretary supervisor.
ยท Maintain stationery and office supplies as part of the team
ยท Maintain secretarial procedure for the department.
ยท Maintain a filing system that facilitates the effective running of the department and personally.
ยท Opening of post and emails, prioritising, processing and/or passing on or actioning as appropriate.
ยท Process referral letters ensuring the consultant assess these for urgency.
ยท Manage patient records appropriately, ensuring an up to date record is maintained of all electronic and paper case notes returned from wards and clinics and all medical notes dispatched appropriately to other departments or hospitals. Ensure medical notes are returned to medical records department at the earliest opportunity.
ยท Support consultant and fracture clinic team in Virtual Fracture Clinic as required.
