About the Role

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer with a passion for women\\\’s health and high-quality care? Do you want to join a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team making a real difference to early breast cancer detection?

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Band 6 Mammographer to join our dedicated Breast Screening & Imaging Department within the Diagnostic & Support Services Division at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a fulfilling role, offering both challenge and reward, working across the Bolton, Bury & Rochdale Breast Screening Service and our Symptomatic Breast Service at Royal Bolton Hospital and community satellite sites across Greater Manchester.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high standard of mammographic imaging in line with NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) protocols and Trust policies.
  • Work closely with advanced and consultant mammographers, radiologists, breast care nurses, and other professionals to support screening, diagnostic, and interventional services.
  • Perform mammography examinations using specialist techniques, assist in image-guided interventional procedures (such as core biopsies and localisations), and ensure equipment quality and compliance with safety regulations including IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017.
  • Support women during what can be an anxious time, offering reassurance, maintaining dignity, and showing empathy and compassion.

What You\’ll Be Doing

  • Perform high-quality screening and symptomatic mammography.
  • Assist with interventional breast procedures under guidance of practitioners.
  • Vet and justify mammography referrals.
  • Participate in daily/weekly/monthly quality control testing.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, including those with language barriers or additional needs.
  • Provide mentorship and support to assistant practitioners, students, and less experienced colleagues.
  • Ensure infection prevention and a safe working environment is maintained.
  • Contribute to service audits, peer reviews, and continuous quality improvement.

What We\’re Looking For

Essential:

  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or DCR (Diagnostic)
  • HCPC Registered Radiographer
  • Evidence of CPD and willingness to engage in ongoing development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good decision-making ability with a focus on patient care
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Mammography or willingness to complete it
  • Experience in a breast screening or symptomatic imaging setting
  • Knowledge of NHSBSP guidelines and quality assurance processes
  • Awareness of current developments in breast imaging and audit participation

Additional Requirements

  • You must hold or be willing to obtain valid professional indemnity insurance.
  • Flexibility to work at satellite clinics and additional hours when required.
  • Ability to manage physical demands of mammography and emotional support aspects of the role.
  • Participation in all mandatory training and safeguarding practices.
