Job summary The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishops Stortford, and St Margarets Hospital in Epping. Main duties of the job You will be responsible for independently performing and reporting on their own patient list, ensuring high clinical standards and accountability in line with established protocols. To actively engage in CPD to maintain and expand professional knowledge and skills. This role also includes teaching and supervising students, leading on audit initiatives, and serving as an advocate for the ultrasound service. To provide detailed written reports by synthesising patient history and scan findings into accurate diagnoses and are confident in seeking second opinions when necessary. You will be fully accountable for their clinical decisions and actions within the scope of practice. Must be able to synthesise patient history and scan findings to produce accurate written diagnostic reports. * Skilled in communicating scan results sensitively to patients, including managing emotionally challenging situations such as failed pregnancies. Must be able to explain inconclusive results clearly and relay findings to referrers with appropriate urgency to support patient management. * Accountable for own professional actions and clinical decisions within defined protocols. Should demonstrate the ability to seek a second opinion when required and escalate concerns or findings appropriately. * Responsible for the care and use of complex and expensive ultrasound equipment, including reporting faults and participating in the evaluation of new equipment during procurement processes. * Capable of supervising and clinically training student sonographers, sharing expertise, and contributing to their development while maintaining high service standards. * Committed to continuous professional development (CPD) and training to maintain and expand clinical knowledge and expertise. Must support clinical governance by contributing to protocol development, following Trust policies, and accurately using radiology systems (e.g., CRIS, Viewpoint, PACS) in compliance with data protection and confidentiality rules. Person Specification Qualifications Essential * HCPC Registration * DMU or Pg Certificate or Diploma in medical ultrasound or equivalent * Full range of ultrasound experience, to include Obstetrics & Gynaecology, General Medical Ultrasound. * Independently reporting above scan areas * Experience of teaching and assessing student Sonographers. * Recent NHS Experience is must & Vascular ultrasound is desirable.
