Job summary

An excellent opportunity is available for a Physiotherapist to join the innovative team at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow, Essex. The role involves delivering ongoing care to a diverse patient group, from those who are critically unwell to individuals requiring minimal rehabilitation, assessment, or advice. You will be responsible for providing high-quality assessment, treatment, advice, and evaluation for patients referred to the acute inpatient physiotherapy service. This includes managing complex physical and psychological conditions. This role offers strong support for professional development, helping to build clinical competencies and leadership skills, and it is based within the medical and care of the elderly teams.

Main duties of the job

As a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will play an essential role in the smooth and effective delivery of the Physiotherapy service at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. To work closely with the Specialty Team Lead, you will contribute to maintaining the highest standards of patient care while identifying opportunities to enhance the service. You will also take part in department-wide training initiatives. The role requires a high degree of autonomy, with responsibility for managing your own caseload and ensuring the seamless transfer of physiotherapy care across defined service areas or patient groups. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will engage regularly with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals. Additionally, you will serve as a patient advocate, ensuring safety, dignity, and a positive care experience throughout the physiotherapy journey.

This role requires total 18.75 hours per week as below: Mon to Fri, #removed# (4 days) & #removed# (1 day)

Job roles & responsibilities

  • To undertake detailed patient assessments to formulate accurate diagnoses, set personalised goals, and develop treatment plans using clinical reasoning and negotiation skills to gain informed consent.
  • To administer physiotherapy treatments using specialist techniques such as manual therapy, electrotherapy, and therapeutic handling, adjusting plans based on patient progress while documenting in line with professional standards.
  • To maintain responsibility for the safe use of physiotherapy equipment; support and supervise junior or non-physiotherapy staff in competency and correct usage of equipment such as appliances, electrotherapy tools, and mobility aids.
  • To manage an independent caseload effectively, including prioritising treatments, discharging patients when appropriate, handling inappropriate referrals, and participating in weekend or emergency physiotherapy cover.
  • To lead or support service projects, deputise for senior staff, and delegate duties as appropriate. Provide guidance to junior staff, ensure adherence to protocols, and always maintain high professional standards.
  • To offer holistic, individualised advice that may include alternative approaches to daily activities, the use of assistive technology or mobility aids, and environmental adaptations all tailored to help patients achieve greater independence and reach their rehabilitation goals.

Person Specification & Qualifications

  • HCPC registered.
  • Degree In Physiotherapy or equivalent.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
  • Experience in medical/care of the elderly
  • Experience in SystmOne
  • Trained in Moving handling & BLS
