Main duties of the job

  • Monitoring patient\’s conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
  • Assisting in the delivery of patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Ensuring that the patient is the prime focus when making decisions about their care and wellbeing.
  • Assisting patients with compassion when undertaking normal activities of daily living whilst ensuring that privacy, dignity, and human rights are respected.

Job responsibilities

Job Title: Care Support Worker

Trust:Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

Location:Torbay Hospital, Totnes community hospital, Brixham community hospital, Newton Abbot community hospital, Teignmouth community hospital, Dawlish community hospital.

Pay Rates:£12.08 – £22.1 band 2. £13.13 to £22.19 Band 3 and based on experience

Shift Pattern: Flexible

About the Trust:

We provide health and social care services to our people in their own homes or in their local community. We also run Torbay Hospital (providing acute hospital services) as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham.

We support around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.

The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above.

What you\’ll need:

  • Minimum of 6 months Acute HCSW UK (Private, NHS or Armed Forces) hospital/hospice experience within the last 2 years

OR

  • Currently studying General/Adult Nursing (Student Nurse) and completed a minimum of 12 weeks clinical placements.*

*Depending on the Trust, you may require variable additional certification and skills.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months Acute HCSW UK (Private, NHS or Armed Forces) hospital/hospice experience within the last 2 years
  • Hospital based experience
  • Care of the elderly

Qualifications

  • Student Nurse with at least 12 weeks clinical placements.
  • Care Certificate from an NHS Organisation
  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Support Services issued after 2011
  • QCF Level 2 OR above Diploma in Health & Social Care or Clinical Healthcare Support issued after 2011
  • QCF Level 3 OR above Diploma in Healthcare Support or Maternity & Paediatric Support issued after 2011 (For Paediatric & Maternity roles only)
  • Degree /Diploma in Nursing and currently do not have an NMC Registration.
  • NVQ 2
