This permanent 0.85wte Band 8A Principal Clinical Psychologist role is based at the Astley Ainslie Hospital and involves providing specialist psychology services within the Lothian Cardiac Rehabilitation Service. The service supports patients with emotional and psychological effects related to heart conditions, including peri- and post-operative experiences, and may involve neuropsychological assessment and treatment of PTSD. The post forms a key part of the Cardiac Rehabilitation multidisciplinary team (MDT).

The service operates as a long-established outpatient service with a stepped care model for psychological care. The post holder will work with the most complex patients and will provide ongoing training, supervision, and support to the wider MDT to facilitate delivery of suitable psychological interventions by non-psychology team members where appropriate.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist clinical psychology input within the Cardiac Rehabilitation multidisciplinary team to support complex patients and families.
  • Deliver and supervise psychological assessments and interventions, including neuropsychological elements where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of a stepped care approach and support the MDT in delivering lower intensity interventions by non-psychology staff where appropriate.
  • Offer training, supervision, and ongoing professional development within the team and wider Clinical Health Psychology Network.
  • Participate in reflective practice and supervision groups (ACT, CBT, Trauma-Focused) and engage with professional development opportunities.
  • Engage in service development and change management as the MDT increasingly works with case workers to provide individualized interventions.
  • Act as a professional role model within the team and contribute to high standards of patient care and safety.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Experience in health psychology or clinical psychology within cardiovascular or medical settings is desirable.
  • To work in the United Kingdom, eligibility to work in the UK and appropriate work permissions are required.
  • PVG Scheme membership/record for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult) is required, or an application to Disclosure Scotland will be needed before starting in post.
