We are seeking to appoint a dynamic Nurse Consultant to join our Healthcare Public Health Division, within the Department of Public Health and Health Policy. This is a permanent, full-time position however we would welcome applications on a job share basis. The main departmental office base will be West Port, located in central Edinburgh, with excellent travel links to surrounding areas. This post is suitable for flexible working however a minimum of 2 days per week will be required in the office.

Successful applicants will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary Healthcare Public Health Division. You will work closely with our four Health and Social Care Partnerships and provide assurance to the Lead Consultant for Healthcare Public Health around quality, safety and the effectiveness of local immunisation strategies. You will provide expert clinical advice and leadership on improving outcomes and reducing inequalities in vaccination uptake.

We are looking for a Nurse Consultant with specialist knowledge, expertise and experience in immunisation at a senior level. The post holder will have the ability to provide strategic, operational, clinical and professional leadership. You will have the experience and ability to prioritise your own work effectively and be able to direct activities across a wide range of stakeholders, often in a politically sensitive environment.

The post holder will liaise with colleagues in Public Health Scotland and represent NHS Lothian on national groups, such as Scottish Vaccination and Immunisation Programme Groups. You will also lead and line manage staff within NHS Lothian’s Public Health immunisation team.

Candidates must be registered with the NMC as 1st Level Nurse, with a Master of Public Health or equivalent education at higher degree level.

However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
