Overview

Applications invited for a Consultant Urological Surgeon role based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The post is offered on the new Consultant Contract terms on a 10 programmed activity basis, with the possibility of two EPAs. The appointee will participate in the on-call rota.

Raigmore Hospital is the principal elective acute hospital for the Highlands and Islands, hosting the Highland Urology Centre. The department currently has five consultants; this is an additional post bringing the team to six. The Urology unit provides care for the Highlands, Western Isles and parts of the Small Isles, with support from rural general hospitals and a dedicated diagnostic hub. The Da Vinci Xi Robotic platform supports multi-specialty use with dedicated Urology allocation.

The Department of General Surgery and Urology will be expanding to meet clinical demand. The board welcomes applicants with subspecialty interests that complement the department and is open to negotiating job plans to support research, teaching, development and humanitarian work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and deliver urological services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in the urology on-call rota and day-to-day clinical duties.
  • Work within the Highland Urology Centre, delivering major surgery, one-stop clinics and specialist investigations.
  • Contribute to service development, innovation and new ways of working, including subspecialty interests and portfolio-based career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with rural general hospitals in diagnostic services, elective and emergency surgery support.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Specialist Register or within six months of anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview for the post.
  • Eligible for appointment to the NHS in Scotland and capable of contributing to a high-quality urological service.
  • Interest in robotics, pelvic oncology, upper and lower tract surgery and diagnostics (including transperineal biopsy) is desirable.
