NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Tuesday and Friday along with a half day Thursday. Please note the salary is pro rata for part time hours.

Old Age Psychiatry Inverclyde HSCP, which is part of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde family of Mental Health, is seeking enthusiastic candidates for this less than full time 5 session speciality grade post. The post is based at Inverclyde Royal Hospital Greenock. There is no on-call.

The successful applicant would provide acute old age liaison psychiatry senior medical support to Inverclyde Royal Hospital with opportunity for a session to the community team alongside an SPA session to support appraisal and professional clinical development. The successful applicant will work alongside a fully integrated health and social work mental health team for older adults. They will be supported by a full time consultant psychiatrist. There is another part time locum consultant psychiatrist and a full time speciality grade old age psychiatrist.

There is a well-established older adult acute liaison, care home liaison and community mental health teams for Inverclyde. Acute psychiatric older adult beds are onsite at Inverclyde Royal Ward 4 (10 beds functional and 10 beds organic) and there is a 30 bed HBCCC Willow Ward also on the Inverclyde Royal Hospital site. Consultant psychiatrist will provide regular clinical supervision as required for level of seniority in the grade.

There is a strong focus on continuous professional development and time will be given in the job plan for teaching and training. For those interested in pursuing CESR, Greater Glasgow and Clyde Old Age Psychiatry have CESR Tutors and would be pleased to explore this option although this will be a fixed term post in the first instance.

All applicants must possess full GMC registration, a licence to practice, with at least 4 years full time Post Graduate Training, two of which must have been in relevant specialties or you will demonstrate and evidence equivalent experience and competencies.

For Speciality doctor posts, there is also an expectation that candidates have completed Day 1 and Day 2 of Section 22 Training prior to taking up the post.

Speciality Doctor must meet the following Criteria:

  • Shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC);
  • Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT); or shall have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas.
