Job overview
An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital to work as a Trials Biomedical Assistant, based in the Blood Sciences department. The role would be for 8 month cover running until March 2026. The successful candidate will work with both the Laboratory team and the Research development team in the preparation and testing of Trial samples.
Previous laboratory experience would be an advantage, but not essential, as full training will be given.
You will be required to have good communication and keyboard skills, along with the ability to work under pressure. Although supervised by Biomedical Scientists, once fully trained, you should be capable of working independently.
We are committed to personal and professional development. Training within your new post will be given if necessary. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is encouraged.
Main duties of the job
All work is performed under the supervision of a Biomedical Scientist and after appropriate training:
- Perform the accurate analysis of samples using automated instrumentation or ‘manual techniques’ and be able to troubleshoot any errors or failures.
- Daily laboratory checks, including: equipment, inventory, and temperatures.
- The use of calibrated pipettes in sample or reagent preparation.
- Undertake appropriate training and gain the necessary knowledge to use various laboratory software in order to: book in test requests, enter test results (where appropriate), file completed samples and monitor outstanding work.
- Be able to communicate effectively, both with colleagues and service users, in order that you would be able to deal with enquiries and provide results.
