Job Description:

This post is considered as a training position under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms & conditions. For more details, please refer to the NHS Forth Valley policies, specifically sections 2(iii) and 3 related to this vacancy.

Applications are invited from experienced or trainee Anatomical Pathology Technicians to join our team at NHS Forth Valley.

Applicants should have or be willing to work towards the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology and have experience as an Anatomical Pathology Technician, Mortuary, or Laboratory Assistant within an NHS Cellular Pathology Laboratory.

Experience in Cellular Pathology or Mortuary services and a good understanding of current practices are essential.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the NHS Forth Valley mortuary, liaising with relatives, Procurators Fiscal, Police, and hospital staff.
  2. Participate in technical activities within the Post Mortem room and Mortuary services across Forth Valley.
  3. Assist in post-mortem examinations, including evisceration, sampling, and organ weighing.
  4. Handle receipt, recording, storage, and release of deceased patients, coordinating with funeral directors, relatives, police, and medical staff.
  5. Participate in an out-of-hours on-call service.

The position is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, supporting both hospital and community services.
