Job overview: The NHP’s Transformation Directorate exists to act as a leading proxy operator of new hospitals, developing and delivering enhanced standards and policies which drive transformational healthcare improvements. The Directorate puts the clinical and operational needs of patients and staff front and centre to realise better outcomes and experiences through transformative hospital builds. The Transformation Directorate consists of the following functions: Hospital Operations, Clinical, Digital, Workforce, Research and Innovation, Integration and Project Support.

Main duties of the job:

  • Leadership: Represent the NHP as an expert and thought leader for Integration.
  • Set, own, and lead the delivery of the Integration national level purpose, vision, strategic objectives, and plans, ensuring alignment to the overarching NHP Strategy.
  • Act as a national level role model for inclusion and the Programme’s values.
  • Shape, embed and provide effective leadership to nurture the development of the Integration Team.
  • Build relationships and a network to ensure that Integration activity is relevant, credible, well communicated and has buy-in across the Delivery Team and schemes.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and best-practice across the Transformation Directorate and all other Directorates.
  • Contribute to strong programme governance, acting as a member of relevant sub-committees.
  • Identify, manage and/or escalate key risks associated with delivering Integration activities.
  • Lead activity for the team across elements of Integration ensuring all activity is delivered seamlessly.

Person specification:

  • A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, project management or a related field is typically required.
  • Professional accreditation or registration with a relevant architectural body.
  • Extensive experience in the design and construction of facilities (ideally healthcare), with a focus on developing spatial designs.
  • In-depth knowledge of national and international healthcare facility design standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of modular construction processes and the ability to ensure that design specifications align with constructability requirements.
  • Understanding of spatial design principles and their application in healthcare facility design.
  • Experience in reviewing and aligning design solutions with transformational briefs and standards.
  • Knowledge of whole-life design principles, sustainability, low carbon initiatives, and emerging building design standards in the healthcare sector.
  • Expertise in governance and decision-making.
  • Extensive experience with stakeholder engagement and management.
