As part of NHS England, Workforce Training and Education Directorate, South East Region, the Thames Valley Local Office is responsible for the planning, development, education, and training of the current and future healthcare and public health workforce across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire. Candidates applying must already be registered as a Consultant in the Thames Valley area within one of the local Trusts.
We are seeking a forward-thinking and dynamic Consultant to lead the School of Surgery. This role involves partnership with NHS England, The Royal College of Physicians, The Royal College of Surgeons, and local Trusts to uphold high standards in specialty training.
The role requires demonstrated leadership in postgraduate education, stakeholder negotiation, and maintaining high standards. The immediate priorities include supporting existing training programs, service transformation, and developing new training opportunities to enhance current offerings.
The Head of School is accountable to the Postgraduate Dean, focusing on improving learner supervision, assessment, engagement of faculty, and educational outcomes. The role also emphasizes workforce transformation, multi-professional collaboration, innovative curriculum delivery, and workforce well-being strategies.
While primarily leading the Postgraduate School of Surgery, senior NHS clinicians may undertake additional roles and projects as agreed with the Postgraduate Dean.
