The Wessex Postgraduate and Medical and Dental Education (PGMDE) team is looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated Education Programme Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled person with excellent organisational and communication skills.
Based in Southampton, we are responsible for the planning, development, education and training of the healthcare and public health workforce across Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight, Salisbury and the States of Jersey, supporting postgraduate medical and dental education and training for over 3,000 resident doctors. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work with the Education Programme Team Manager and Business and Education Manager to provide a full and comprehensive front line administrative service within the team.
The successful applicant will work in a challenging, busy and rewarding environment, as part of a friendly and supportive team. You will be building relationships and networks with a wide range of people including NHS hospital Trusts, GP practices, Resident Doctors, consultants, and the Royal Medical Colleges.
Please note this is a fast-paced, operational role and there is an expectation that the post holder will work in the Southampton office two days a week.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders. They will provide comprehensive administrative support and leadership in ensuring the delivery of high quality regional and national processes. In this key role, the post holder will work across a broad range of activities within the workstream and portfolio as a whole, in addition to supporting wider PGMDE activity.
- Taking a lead role in the ARCP (Annual Review of Competence Progression) process for their portfolio of work. This includes setting up and maintaining spreadsheets, planning and organising the panels throughout the year ensuring that reviews are held at appropriate times for the individual Resident Doctor.
- Liaise with Consultants and Medical HR at trusts within the Wessex region providing support and guidance.
- Taking a lead role in programme management of allocated specialty training programmes, ensuring rotations are produced within the defined timelines and entered on the Trainee Information System accurately and communicated effectively.
- Provide support to the Education Programme Team Manager, Business and Education Manager and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that filing and data archiving is undertaken by all team members in accordance with organisational policy.
- Strong Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint skills are also required for this role.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
- Evidence of continued professional development
Experience
- Demonstrable experience of managing and co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
- Experience of drafting briefing papers and correspondence up to and including at senior management level as well as experience of creating and giving complex presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage own workload and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight deadlines and often changing timescales, sometimes at short notice and unexpectedly
- Experience of managing and reporting risks and setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Financial Systems e.g., monitoring budget management, processing invoices, procurement and business planning processes
- Knowledge of Data Protection and Information Governance
