The Director of Cross-Sector Delivery will lead NHS England’s centre of expertise for cross-cutting health and social policy and programmes that aid system delivery of healthcare services. The team will lead and take accountability for the delivery policy and programmes on social issues such as Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence and ADHD that require significant cross-system and partnership working, collaborating with relevant government departments and public authorities to adopt a whole system approach to these issues. Working closely with our Performance and Delivery Unit, the postholder will lead work that focuses on the root cause of social issues that have a significant impact on the NHS to ensure better experiences and outcomes for people and staff, as well as reduce the cost to the NHS.

The postholder will also lead on the critical implementation of the cross-system Sexual Safety in Healthcare Charter, tackling sexual misconduct in the workplace and shaping broader social policy and economic benefits across the public sector and beyond.

  • The post-holder will be accountable for:
  • Providing leadership on health and social policy, ensuring clear priorities for delivery and clear direction for NHSE and cross-system partner organisations as well as assurance for the Board on implementation.
  • Collaborating with and influencing senior leaders and ministers across government and the public sector on innovation and uptake to adopt a whole system approach to cross-cutting health and social issues.
  • Setting the direction and policy framework for policy and programmes on social issues that require significant cross-system and partnership working.
  • Leading major transformation programmes that cut across multiple sectors and areas of the NHS.
  • Working closely with the Performance and Delivery unit to lead cross-cutting areas of health and social policy development.
  • Managing NHS England’s key relationships to strengthen the relationship building effective relationships and represent the National Director in working with national leads for key new initiatives and programmes.
  • Providing leadership and direction and oversight for the cross-sector delivery team, creating a high performing team that is motivated and excited about creating social change, ensuring clear priority for delivering and on the infrastructure to support delivery.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
