This is a pivotal post in the Medical Directorate of NHS England East Region. The Professional Standards Team is responsible for managing applications, performance concerns, and appraisal and revalidation of primary care practitioners on the National Performers List (NPL), aligned with the East of England Responsible Officer. This role is key to ensuring that all applications to join the NPL are clinically reviewed as per the Policy for managing applications to join the England Performers Lists. It also involves reviewing or investigating concerns related to practitioner performance and associated patient safety risks, in accordance with the Policy on Managing the Performers Lists. You will work alongside other medical advisors, associate medical directors, and be supported by a skilled team of case managers. Key Responsibilities Manage applications and professional concerns/complaints, and handle appraisal/revalidation issues in collaboration with the Professional Standards Team. Plan and conduct case investigations, including visiting clinicians and conducting face-to-face interviews when necessary. Review medical records and produce reports for consideration by performance groups and panels. Contribute to the development and monitoring of performance improvement plans for practitioners. Represent NHS England at meetings related to primary care practitioner performance. Provide expert clinical advice during regulatory Panel Meetings. Assess Performers List applications, evaluating references, qualifications, and experience as requested by the Responsible Officer. Participate in practice visits and investigations as required. Promote positive relationships between NHS England, ICBs, Local Medical Committees, and primary care practitioners. Coordinate with NHS and non-NHS organizations such as NHS Resolution and Professional Regulatory Bodies. Ensure compliance with new legislation, NICE guidelines, and NHS regulations and guidance. Maintain up-to-date skills, knowledge, and understanding to provide effective advice.
