Acting as the expert for all Employment Law related matters within NHSBT, embedded within the HR team but supporting all parts of the organisation. You will play an integral role in supporting our people to save and improve more lives. We are looking for a legal leader with exceptional leadership skills as well as strong interpersonal and influencing skills, to be able to develop and lead high performing teams, acting as an advocate for change. You will provide leadership on all legal issues, and act as an adviser to the most senior people in the organisation. In this role, you will be the expert point of contact for all Employment Law related matters within NHSBT at all levels within the organisation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that all colleagues involved in cases have and maintain the relevant skills by providing regular updates, training, and coaching where appropriate. This will include updating on legislation when applicable to ensure that NHSBT remains compliant.
- In conjunction with company appointed solicitors, assess and determine strategy to defend Employment Tribunal claims lodged against NHSBT to achieve the best possible outcome.
- Ensuring cost analysis is carried out for each case, ensuring detailed invoices from solicitors are correct and paid, raising any concerns promptly.
- Delivering comprehensive Settlement Agreements ensuring the organisation is protected from litigation.
- Ensuring third-party subrogated claims are handled efficiently, recovering funds appropriately.
- Planning and managing all aspects of claims against NHSBT in Employment Tribunals.
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of dealing with Employee Relations issues in a unionised environment, e.g., investigations into disciplinary cases, staff grievances, etc., to advise on complex HR issues.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of computer packages, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
- Previous experience of presenting training courses on HR-related topics and the ability to produce HR training packages.
- Possesses contractual knowledge and experience in devising contractual arrangements.
- Previous experience in a busy HR function in either public or private sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current employment legislation.
- Experience of developing HR policies and procedures.
- Recent HR Operations Experience.
- Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
- Mastersβ degree in employment law or related topic.
- Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
