What you’ll be doing
As part of a technical team, you will review housing development plans and provide support and advice for housebuilders and their technical/design teams. Your technical input will cover NHBC Standards, primarily focusing on weather resistance, including checking design elements like walls, roofs, cladding finishes, parapets, cavity trays, and basement waterproofing. You will collaborate with builder customers and their design teams to provide knowledge and technical advice on NHBC Standards, design codes, and relevant areas to guide them towards compliant solutions acceptable to NHBC. You will also coordinate projects, set up inspection regimes, support inspectors, and attend meetings (which may be via Microsoft Teams). This role is home-based with flexibility and a good work/life balance. Travel to client sites and occasionally to our offices, including Milton Keynes, is expected.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing NHBC’s technical and warranty risks on new build projects
- Reviewing technical submissions for compliance with NHBC standards
- Coordinating project inputs from specialists within the risk management team
- Negotiating and influencing developers and design teams
- Conducting site inspections as needed to support inspectors and engineers
The ideal candidate will have
Seeking the next step in the housing sector, with some knowledge and experience in housebuilding and construction techniques, and an interest in building failure mechanisms and pathology. You will also need:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A proactive, self-motivated approach
- At least three years of construction or housing-related technical experience
- A full UK Driving Licence
Education and Qualifications
- Chartered membership or working towards it (e.g., MCIOB, BEng, Associate)
- Building/construction-related degree or equivalent (HNC/D diploma)
- Familiarity with IT systems and software
- Minimum GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent
