Job role: Regional Quality & Risk Consultant
Salary:£48,000 – £52,000 (depending on experience) + Up to 10% performance bonus

What you’ll be doing:
To foster and promote the purpose and objectives of NHBC and to positively advance internal and external customer relationships and commercial offerings across Northern Ireland. Manage and ensure the retention and development of external small to medium size customers by facilitating improvement in construction quality and reduction in build risk to aid claims mitigation. Work collaboratively across NHBC to inform and influence technical risk management focus, skills, and capability.
Deliver and grow NHBC’s commercial portfolio offering, particularly construction quality consultancy capability and services ensuring profitability in accordance with the business area service level agreement and standard operating procedures.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionally qualified staff, ensure key risks are identified and managed to mitigate warranty claims. Apply specialist technical knowledge and understanding of failure mode and effects of buildings through the application of NHBC Standards, Codes and National/European standards to complex new build and conversion projects.
Job summary:

Lead management of NHBC’s technical and warranty risks across Risk Level 1 & 2 new build and conversion projects.

Conduct holistic project and builder risk assessments to develop bespoke technical risk management plans.

Oversee and dynamically manage technical risk profiling and inspection regimes.

Act as Project Manager for warranty-only projects, coordinating input from technical specialists.

Advise developers and design teams on NHBC Standards and compliant technical solutions.

Carry out site inspections and provide technical support to inspectors, surveyors, and engineers.

Contribute to operational efficiency and support business growth within the Northern Ireland region.
Quality & Consultancy Services
-
Deliver NHBC’s construction quality consultancy and inspection services to Northern Ireland builders.

Review and analyse build quality issues, trends, and emerging risks.

Work with SME builders to identify defects, develop improvement plans, and reduce claims.

Lead workshops, presentations, and standards-raising campaigns to improve build quality.

Conduct root cause analyses and prepare reports, business cases, and technical recommendations.
Customer & Stakeholder Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with builders, developers, and industry stakeholders.

Proactively manage and resolve customer complaints and conflicts.

Represent NHBC on external quality bodies and industry committees.

Promote NHBC’s brand, services, and business growth across the Northern Ireland construction sector.
Compliance & Professional Standards

Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE safety requirements.

Maintain up-to-date expertise in modern building technologies and materials.

What we’re looking for

Experience of managing and leading people.

Experience in managing a change environment.

In depth understanding of why and how buildings fail and result in claims. Both in design, specification and construction, with experience in mitigating these issues.

Have comprehensive knowledge and experience of: NHBC Standards and Building Regulations; on-site experience with good knowledge of the Northern Ireland housing sector; experience of construction quality management; an eye for detail and a curiosity about how improvements in build quality can be brought to the house-building industry across the entire supply chain; an ability to communicate effectively to senior contacts clearly and diplomatically, both face-to-face, in workshops, presentations and in writing

Prepared to travel throughout the UK and Europe, including occasional short stays away from home.

Ability to balance/prioritise a demanding workload while making progress on all fronts.

Qualified to a minimum HNC/HND level in a construction related discipline. Full membership or working towards full membership of an appropriate professional institution e.g. CIOB, CABE, BSC, RICS Cert.Ed., BILD, IOSH, CMI etc
