We’re looking for a Senior Commercial & Regulatory Counsel to join our Legal team and provide trusted commercial legal advice across the organisation. This is a broad, non-contentious role where you’ll support a variety of strategic business areas, with particular focus on insurance law, reinsurance contracts and AI governance. Working closely with senior stakeholders up to Board level, you’ll provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice to help NHBC manage legal risk, deliver key priorities and operate with integrity.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of non-contentious matters
- Advising on commercial contracts, procurement, regulation, competition law, company law and corporate governance matters
- Supporting the Underwriting team with specialist advice relating to insurance law, security and reinsurance contracts
- Providing legal guidance on AI governance, including supporting the implementation and use of AI software across the Legal team and wider organisation
- Partnering with senior stakeholders and functional leaders to provide early, trusted and practical legal advice
- Supporting strategic projects and helping the organisation navigate complex legal and commercial considerations
- Identifying and managing legal risks, ensuring appropriate escalation where required
- Supporting the development of junior members of the Legal team through coaching and knowledge sharing
What we’re looking for:
- A qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales with a current practising certificate and 5+ years’ post-qualification experience (PQE)
- Strong experience in commercial legal advisory work, ideally within an in-house environment
- Experience advising on insurance law and/or reinsurance contracts would be highly desirable
- Knowledge or experience relating to AI governance and the implementation of AI software would be beneficial
- Strong commercial judgement with the ability to provide clear, practical legal advice
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge senior leaders constructively
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
- A collaborative, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach
- Commitment to developing others and contributing positively to the wider Legal team
