NG Bailey’s Freedom Division are looking for an intern to showcase their passion for electrical design engineering. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience, working under the guidance of experienced engineers and design leads. The intern will assist in producing mechanical and electrical drawings, learning to apply British/IEC Electrical Network Association (ENA) standards. The Electrical Design Engineer Intern will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to develop technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and professional competencies while contributing to real-world projects. A typical day will be diverse, challenging and very rewarding. Some of the key deliverables for this role will include:

  • Design mechanical and electrical drawings in line with project requirements, following British/IEC Electrical Network Association (ENA) standards and practices.
  • Deliver best-value design solutions with guidance and support from the engineering and design team.
  • Assist the design lead and project teams in all aspects of design work.
  • Learn to undertake technical reviews, identifying potential issues and proposing solutions.
  • Gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, CYMCAP, DigSilent Power Factory, PLS CAD, and CDEGS to carry out tasks within your discipline.
  • Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with operational and project teams.
  • Develop an understanding of project costs and contribute to managing design-related expenses.
  • Learn and apply relevant regulations, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), Electrical Safety/ESQCR regulations, and building/wiring legislation, ensuring all designs meet legal compliance.

  • To be enrolled on undergraduate degree with a placement year and provide confirmation of the University you attend and the degree you are enrolled on, you must be on track to achieve a 2:2.
  • Right to work indefinitely - we are unable to provide visa sponsorship under either the Dependent or Skilled worked visa routes.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home and be prepared for early starts. Working at our offices and visiting our projects and sites.
  • A full driving license.
