We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic people to join our Freedom team. Here you will learn from the industry’s best, working with teams installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 400V to 33KV in a manner that delivers safe, high workmanship quality and fit for purpose networks for the customer.

As an NG Bailey apprentice you will:

  • Train at one of the top performing colleges or training providers in the country
  • Learn about our award-winning approach to working safely

  • Have a strong support network giving you the chance to build your confidence and use your initiative.

You will learn to:

  • Install and construct overhead electricity networks to relevant construction standards
  • Erect poles, change transformers
  • Learn to understand and adhere to risk assessments
  • Use mobile lifting equipment
  • Gain a NPTC chainsaw qualification
  • Maintain site safety at all times
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, wiring and circuit diagrams
  • Use small hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, grips, hammers, saws, etc.
  • Operate electrical 110v and battery powered tools such as SDS drills, combi drills, impact drivers, disc grinders etc.

We are looking for people who:

  • Comfortable working indoors or outdoors in all weather
  • Be prepared for early starts and travel away from home for college and work
  • Enjoy practical, hands-on work with good coordination

  • Able to follow instructions, stay calm under pressure and complete tasks safely
  • Are happy working at height.

You will attend college to complete the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Power Industry Overhead Lines Person. In addition, you will regularly attend in-house training and development as part of the programme.

To apply you need:

  • To be aged 18 or over to work within high voltage power networks.
  • Able to safely distinguish colour-coded wiring and components.
  • To have a valid UK driving licence.
  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade C/4 or above in English Language, Maths, Science.
  • Grade C/4 or above in Scottish National 5 or Scottish Intermediate (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.

Please note, to be eligible for an apprenticeship you:

  • Must be able to complete the apprenticeship within the required time, including the End-Point Assessment.
  • Must have a valid and eligible residency status and the right to work in England.
  • Must be ordinarily resident in the UK or its territories for at least 3 years before starting the apprenticeship.
