Field Manager – Service Upgrades

Freedom has an exciting opportunity for a Field Manager to support the delivery of our New Connections Service Upgrades contract with Northern Powergrid.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of electrical service upgrade projects across the North East region.

This is a hands‑on operational role, responsible for coordinating site activities, managing resources, and leading teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the required standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day delivery of Service Upgrade works across the Northern Powergrid network.
  • Lead and manage Supervisors, Planners, Engineers and Site Operatives.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, to specification, within budget and in line with programme requirements.
  • Act as a key operational contact for Northern Powergrid and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Champion safe working practices and ensure compliance with all HSQE policies, procedures and legal requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently from planning through to energisation and handover.
  • Plan and allocate labour, plant and materials to meet operational demands.
  • Monitor contract performance and KPIs, implementing improvements where required.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of project documentation, including RAMS and as-built records.
  • Liaise with local authorities, subcontractors and key stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement across all activities.
  • What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Experience in an operational role within cable installation, utilities or power distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of LV cable networks.
  • Understanding of new connections processes within a regulated utility environment.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong client and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Good commercial awareness and contract management experience.
  • SSSTS, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working on Northern Powergrid contracts.
  • Streetworks knowledge and understanding of NRSWA requirements.
  • Management or supervisory qualifications.
