The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is the largest organisation representing farming in the UK. This crucial secondment opportunity will lead a multi-disciplined communications department. Experience leading and delivering a communications strategy is a must, as is evidence-based, confident decision-making to maximise impact in the fast-paced environment in which we operate, working to enhance and protect the reputation of British food and farming, its farmers and growers.
Within the communications teams, our work helps to shape attitudes towards British farming. We devise and deliver campaigns that have real world impact on behalf of our 43,000 farmer and grower members. We create powerful, engaging content that informs and inspires, and we maintain a leading presence across British media — regularly briefing journalists as an organisation consistently in the national spotlight.
With audiences including NFU members, our staff, as well as members of parliament and the public, you’ll enjoy a huge variety of work in a collaborative atmosphere, with opportunities to connect with experts from across the organisation and beyond. All in a modern, open, inclusive environment, where we all pull together to deliver for our members. You’ll work on some of the most important and engaging communications issues in British farming. In return, we ask for flexibility, including occasional out‑of‑hours availability to manage critical communications.

- You will have extensive leadership experience and in media management, and the ability to flex across multimedia communications disciplines.

- As a department head, you will be part of the NFU’s Senior Leadership Team.
- You will thrive at building cross-departmental relationships, developing your people, managing and rewarding performance, as well as setting data‑led strategies which link to the NFU’s business plan and achieve measurable success.
This role will be based in Warwickshire, with agile working.
