About the role
Are you an experienced Infrastructure professional with a background in Windows, Linux, SQL, VMWare? An opportunity has become available in the team as a Wintel Infrastructure Engineer within the IT Infrastructure Products department. The Technical Service Ownership team is dedicated to maintaining the stability of our IT services and plays a key role in governing, delivering and maintaining secure and robust solutions in our estate. Reporting to the IT Technical Manager, this role will be responsible for a range of duties. This role will provide technical advisory support for projects and help resolve Wintel-related P1, P2 and P3 incidents. The role will review and approve change requests relating to the NFUM server estate, assess their potential impact and distribute detailed reviews to the relevant resources and stakeholders. It will also involve assessing performance and recommending improvements across the server estate, defining guardrails and build standards, ensuring all third-party providers adhere to them, and identifying opportunities for consolidation and cost savings. Additionally, you’ll act as a representative at the Change Advisory Board (CAB), which is responsible for evaluating, prioritising, approving, and rejecting changes to the NFUM infrastructure. Collaboration with external IT partners and vendors to drive service improvements is also a key aspect of the role.
About you
As a Wintel Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be an SME in Windows and have knowledge of VMWare, SQL and Cloud infrastructure. You’ll have demonstrable experience in supporting, deploying and improving server infrastructure in a regulated environment. You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and be able to effectively prioritise your workload. As you’ll be assisting in the resolution of major IT incidents, problem-solving skills are essential within a customer-focused IT environment. You’ll take ownership of issues and tasks and see through to successful completion, working with 3rd party vendors as required.
- Proven experience supporting and maintaining Windows Server (Wintel) infrastructure within a complex enterprise environment (Essential)
- Experience resolving and troubleshooting complex infrastructure incidents, including work with observability (Essential)
- Demonstrable experience of cloud-based infrastructure environments, with a strong understanding of Azure, AWS or GCP services and best practices (Essential)
- Experience working with SQL Server environments, supporting stability, performance, and ongoing improvements (Desirable)
- In depth experience in migrations and consolidation (Desirable)
- Knowledge of governance or architectural practices and working within a regulated industry would be desirable.
