About the role

NFU Mutual have an excellent opportunity within our Group Operational Risk department as Senior Operational Risk Manager.

The Operational Risk team plays a vital role in protecting the business by identifying, assessing, and managing risks that could impact operations. Their purpose is to support and challenge stakeholders in embedding a strong risk culture, ensure compliance with the Group’s risk appetite, and provide assurance to governance bodies. They also lead on operational resilience, including business continuity and incident management, and are actively involved in major change programmes to assess and mitigate emerging risks

As a Senior Operational Risk Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in embedding NFU Mutual’s Risk Management Framework across the organisation. Reporting to the Head of Operational Risk Management, you’ll work closely with business areas and change programmes to ensure risks are identified, assessed and managed effectively.

You’ll provide assurance to senior leadership that operational risks are being managed within agreed appetite statements and lead quarterly Risk Forums to oversee current and emerging risks. You’ll also coach and develop a team of Operational Risk professionals, helping them maximise their contribution and support the business in monitoring and escalating issues.

Additional duties include:

  • Promote a strong risk management culture across the NFU Mutual by leveraging industry best practices to influence and align stakeholders on consistent risk and control standards.
  • Provide expert risk advice and build strong relationships across the organisation to proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure clear risk ownership and alignment with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework through regular Risk Forums, covering current and emerging risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor changes in the operating environment, including regulatory developments, and assure the Executive Team that risks and opportunities are managed in line with the framework.
  • Deliver independent assurance to the Risk Director and Group Operational Risk Committee on compliance with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework through high-quality reporting and analysis.

About you

You possess exceptional knowledge and experience in operational risk management and risk regulations and frameworks within insurance, financial services or banking. You have strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels. You consistently deliver results through proactive decision-making and a focus on continuous improvement. Your proactive and collaborative approach enables you to embed effective risk practices and provide assurance across the organisation.
