Chief Loss Control Surveyor

  • Pivotal role advising on commercial, agricultural and domestic insurance risks
  • Provide technical surveying expertise and thought leadership for Loss control Teams and Underwriting
  • Strategic hands-on role to shape and define our Loss Control team

About the role

This Chief Loss Control Surveyor role is an outstanding opportunity for you to help shape the future of risk management for one of the UK’s leading insurers. An opportunity to set the benchmark for our loss control services, lead us in new directions, and take responsibility for giving our customers the best service we can provide.

NFU Mutual and the Agency Network are growing rapidly, and we have ambitious plans to expand our commercial, personal and agricultural sector business. As part of the Group, Risk Management Services provides high quality risk consultancy and advice to a range of customers, and you’ll play a key role in growing and developing these services.

As Chief Loss Control Surveyor, you’ll be the lynchpin, bridging the gap between Risk Management and the NFU Mutual Underwriting teams. As the pinnacle of the Loss Control team, you’ll also provide technical expertise and direction to our team of 35 home-based surveyors, setting the standards, protocols and policies they follow. Ultimately, you’ll ensure they give optimal risk improvement advice to a range of domestic, agricultural and commercial customers to reduce the likelihood of insurance claims and protect premium levels.

Using your in-depth technical expertise, you’ll direct and support our surveyors, setting standards and technical guidelines to enable them and our 400 underwriters to understand and classify risks. And as we grow, you’ll help shape the future of the business, advising on the formation of specialist teams as we branch out into new risk management areas.

This is a home-based role. You will be required to travel to undertake national site visits and attend meetings in our Tiddington Head Office and other UK-based site offices.

About you

  • With extensive experience and knowledge of insurance and surveying, you’ll ideally have a relevant professional qualification (ACII preferred) and the technical expertise to develop and establish standards that meet the needs of all our customers.
  • You’ll have the confidence and character to advise and direct our large team of surveyors effectively, when you’re not their line manager. This means developing their technical prowess, establishing best practice and occasionally accompanying them on more complex risk cases.
  • As an effective communicator, you’ll have the presence to manage relationships with key stakeholders across Risk Management Services, NFU Mutual and the Agency Network.
  • Organised, methodical, and self-driven, you’ll be a role model for your team and will have your own Personal Development Plan for growth and opportunities in the future.
