Overview

In this role you will lead the organisation’s policy and public affairs work to influence environmental policy. You will work closely with senior leadership to shape advocacy plans and respond to political developments, leveraging research and insights to drive change. You’ll manage APPG activity, coordinate party conference presence, and ensure the organisation’s voice is heard in key policy discussions. The position offers impact across government, Parliament and stakeholders, with opportunities to shape meaningful environmental outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver policy and advocacy activity aligned with organisational priorities
  • Provide advice and briefings on political, policy and regulatory developments to senior leaders
  • Manage relationships with Parliamentarians, government, political stakeholders and external partners
  • Coordinate APPG activity including briefings, logistics, reports and compliance
  • Lead the organisation’s presence at party conferences and policy events
  • Produce high-quality policy briefings, reports and materials
  • Undertake policy research and analysis to support positions
  • Provide timely response to political developments and campaigns
  • Contribute to media engagement through policy research and briefs
  • Represent the organisation at meetings, events and coalitions
  • Oversee policy-related projects ensuring on-time delivery and budget adherence
  • Monitor KPIs and provide evidence for decision-making
  • Work across teams to balance stakeholder needs in a fast-paced environment

Key requirements

  • Knowledge of the UK policy and political system, especially environmental issues
  • Experience in policy research and analysis
  • Experience advocating for policy change
  • Experience working with Parliamentarians or Parliament
  • Strong political awareness and understanding of policy and campaigning processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain complex issues clearly
  • Experience presenting to senior stakeholders
  • Ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and seek advice when needed
  • Flexible, collaborative and adaptable approach
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft 365, OneDrive and SharePoint, plus CRM, web-based systems and databases
  • Ability to oversee planning and delivery of high-quality events
