We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Finance to strengthen the financial performance and business operations of a successful educational charity.
Position: Director of Finance
Location: Gloucestershire
Salary: £85K per annum (negotiable)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
About the role:
As the Director of Finance, you will enhance the financial performance and business operations of a diverse portfolio valued at over £300 million. You will support the charity's goals to expand its grant-giving capacity, improve business planning and decision-making, and establish new partnerships with donor organisations and land managers.
You will collaborate closely with the CEO and trustees on the charity's strategic initiatives, leading and managing the finance team while being accountable for critical services such as compliance, governance, and health and safety. Your role requires excellent management skills and a proven track record of effective cross-organisational collaboration.
About you:
We are seeking an inspirational and experienced leader with the skills and knowledge to manage the finance function of this incredible charity; you will have the experience to:
- Develop and align the Trust’s financial strategy with strategic ambitions.
- Deliver robust financial reporting, including monthly accounts, annual budgets, and long-term plans.
- Ensure annual operating budgets are consistent with the business plan.
- Lead the annual audit and prepare statutory accounts.
- Provide clear financial analysis during quarterly performance reviews.
- Lead and support the finance and governance team, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Develop and implement training programs for finance and governance employees.
- Ensure compliance with charity, company, and health and safety laws.
- Lead risk management and maintain the Trust’s active risk register.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
Essential skills:
- Qualified finance professional (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with senior finance role experience.
- Experience managing finance within a charity or non-profit organization.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a collaborative culture.
- Expertise in developing and implementing long-term financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Strong understanding of financial regulations, governance standards, and compliance requirements in the charity sector.
- Proficiency in preparing and presenting financial reports to boards, senior management, and stakeholders.
